Wednesday class is an open group

At 9:30 on Wednesday mornings a group of religious patriots gathers to discuss all that needs to be discussed.  This is an open group – they are extremely welcoming and are interested in getting to know new people.  This fall we will be reading and discussing a book by Brian McLaren entitled Generous Orthodoxy:  Why I am a missional, evangelical, post/protestant, liberal/conservative, mystical/poetic, biblical, charismatic/contemplative, fundamentalist/Calvinist, Anabaptist/Anglican/ Methodist, Catholic, green, incarnational, depressed yet hopeful, emergent, unfinished Christian.

Seriously, that’s the title of the book.  One of the questions the group had is about all the different kinds of Christians there are in the world.  Here McLaren seems to say in the very title of his book that he is all of them – or all of them are a part of him.  (It is fortunate that he included Methodist in the title, otherwise I wouldn’t touch the book.)  McLaren (like Jim Wallis who wrote On God’s Side which we are reading for Adult Sunday School) grew up in an evangelical church.  He also experienced a transformation but because of his background he has a wide vision for all the different expressions of Christianity in the world (his one blind spot may be Eastern Orthodoxy, but we will talk about that).  I have purchased 10 books – let me know if you want one.  You may also look elsewhere.

I have written previously that I would be willing to offer another class on Sunday evenings if there were enough people interested.  So far I have not received any response.  Please let me know if you might be interested.  P.Jim
